This work was presented at the exhibition ‘The Cabinet In The Washing Machine’ that took place in the recycling center. One of the common materials used for the surface of commonly sold, used, recycled and mass produced cheap furniture is wood patterned plastic veneer. In order to compare these furniture materials, I carved elaborate wood grains on linoleum, similar to plastic veneer, which was cut to resemble shadows of furniture.
서대문구 재활용센터에서 그 장소와 가구들이 갖는 맥락에 관심을 갖고 전시를 했던 ‘세탁기 장식장’ 전시에서 보여주었던 작업이다. 특히나 재활용센터에서 많이 보게되었던 가구는 MDF, 집성목 등 나무의 가루를 모아 만든 저렴한 가구들이었다. 우리 생활에서 사람들이 비교적 쉽게 사고 재활용되며, 많이 쓰이는 대량 생산된 그러한 가구의 표면을 감싸고 있는 재료는 비닐 재료 중 하나인 나무 무늬 씨트지이다. 이런 가구와 대비되도록 오랫동안 공들여 깎은 나무결을 비닐 장판 바닥재에 가구의 그림자 모양으로 새겨넣었다.
